I’ll forget about this song for years at a time and whenever I rediscover it I think about being a young Treepunk in my dads car while we are driving through Mexico in the rain. It was two days before christmas and we made the long drive to San Luis de Potosi to visit my great-abuela.
Back before there was such a thing as a highway commission in Estado Unidos Mexicanos, the roads through the mountains were rather… well, to a young me it felt like being in a violently-heaving spaceship. The last third of the song kicked in right as the road began to suddenly feel a lot more like rolling down a mountain and when the final bars played i’m pretty sure we hit a pothole and I shit my metaphorical underpants.
It’s not my first memory, but it might be the first time I remember being really afraid. But this song still leaves me with a sense of wonder and intense fear.
